Rallying call for innovative North East businesses

Entrepreneurs are being given the chance to apply for a free place to showcase their innovative products or services at Venturefest North East this October.

Venturefest North East is the region’s innovation conference, organised by Newcastle Science City in conjunction with the Government’s innovation agency, Innovate UK, with support from the North East Local Enterprise Partnership.

The free one-day conference takes place on 21st October at the Hilton NewcastleGateshead and will include a unique Innovation Showcase hosted by the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC).

The Innovation Showcase will take place throughout the conference, demonstrating to visitors from across the North East and beyond a host of innovative ideas developed and commercialised by businesses in the region.

Elizabeth Shaw, Innovation Manager at BIC, commented: “The BIC has spent a great deal of time working with and understanding, the innovative landscape in the North East. We’ve seen great results from our SME Innovation Programme, with over 130 new jobs forecast as a result. We are delighted to support the Innovation Showcase at Venturefest North East, celebrating the many successes of innovative businesses in the region.”

Businesses will need to submit an application by 29nd September for the Innovation Showcase, outlining information about the product or service they want to showcase.

Successful applicants will get free exhibition space within the Innovation Showcase as well as exposure to a national audience of investors, advisory bodies, businesses and innovation experts.

Simon Green, Head of Business Support at Newcastle Science City said: “The North East has a strong history of innovation but we don’t often shout about our successes. The Innovation Showcase represents a fantastic, free opportunity for our business community to showcase exciting, innovative products, whilst also creating a collaborative environment where new ideas can spark.”

Applicants can send images or a video to demonstrate the functionality of the product, a description of how the product will impact on, innovate or disrupt existing markets, as well as ideas about how the product will be showcased at the event.
