New homeowners welcomed to North Shields

Homeowners in North Shields were handed the keys to their new homes this week with a small celebratory event.

Housing provider The Riverside Group who commissioned the build at Amble Close for 12 two-bedroomed bungalows hosted the event to welcome the new neighbours to the estate and to thank the existing residents for their cooperation.

Gentoo Construction, principal contractors on site were also on hand to answer any questions about the new homes.

Andrew Williamson, Development Manager for The Riverside Group said: “This development has helped transform Amble Close. The new bungalows provide much needed affordable accommodation that helps meet the diverse needs of the local community. We are delighted with the positive feedback we have received from our new tenants and the local residents and we look forward to working with Gentoo on future projects.”

Allan Thompson, Managing Director of Gentoo Construction said: “We’re delighted that our new partnership with Riverside has worked so well to ensure a smooth build process, completed on time, within budget and to the customer’s expectations. The development has achieved what was intended, to create affordable homes that can greatly improve someone’s standard of living - or as Gentoo like to call it their Art of Living.”

At the event customers were welcomed with cake and coffee, as well as Gentoo staff who were offering energy saving advice.

Sandra Watts (pictured) who has just moved into her home with her husband said: “Absolutely love my new home! There’s just me and my husband now and we wanted to downsize from our last home. These properties were so nice I thought I’d try but never thought I’d get it!”

Another new resident June said: “I have a lot of difficulty with my mobility and sometimes struggle to walk without the aid of my sticks. Moving into a home like this where everything is on the one floor and so accommodating is just great. I love my new bathroom and kitchen!”

The brownfield site was acquired from North Tyneside Council where houses were previously demolished.
