LPG supplier donates £1,600 to charity in Tour de France legacy

Chesterfield-based national LPG supplier AvantiGas has been raising money for Marie Curie through an internal ‘jersey’ fundraiser to commemorate this year’s Tour de France.

Staff at the company were invited to help raise funds for Marie Curie, the official charity partner of the Tour de France Grand Depart, by donating money in return for a specially commissioned Tour de France style yellow leader’s jersey. Sixty-two jerseys have been sold and the staff held their own ‘Grand Depart’ including a bake sale and car wash helping to raise £1,605.24 for the charity, beating their £1,000 target.

AvantiGas, which supplies LPG energy to homes and businesses not on the mains gas network, supported a number of cycling events earlier in the year within Yorkshire’s Grand Depart Stage 1 locations.

Abi Martin, B2C Marketing Executive at AvantiGas, said: “The Grand Depart was such a huge part of our activity this year that we wanted to create something to help commemorate the event. We had branded Tour de France jerseys created during our sponsorship of regional cycling club events and knew these would be perfect to sell to staff to help raise money for such a fantastic charity and to have as a keepsake from such a memorable occasion.

“Everyone had the option to donate as much as they wanted towards the jerseys with the company matching all donations. We have raised a phenomenal amount for Marie Curie and the team is incredibly proud. As a national supplier of LPG, we endeavour to support local communities around us and we know the money raised will do just that.”

Gemma Chance, local Partnership Manager at Marie Curie, said: “We are thrilled that AvantiGas has chosen to support Marie Curie. The team has raised over £1,600 which helps us provide 80 hours of nursing care throughout Derbyshire.

“Our nurses provide free hands on care to terminally ill patients and vital emotional support to their families. Support from individuals and local businesses such as AvantiGas is vital to ensure we can continue providing a high standard of care to those who need it most.”
