Vision Express offers Newcastle residents free eye tests as Vision Van hits city

A recent study shows the North East is a UK ‘hotspot’ at high risk of preventable sight loss, with over half of residents not having regular eye tests.

To boost the eye health of residents, Vision Express will visit the city in its ‘Vision Van’ – a large mobile unit equipped with the very latest eye testing technology, to offer free of charge eye tests. It will be stationed at Newcastle’s Grey’s Monument, Grainger Street on Monday 22 September 2014 from 10am to 5.30pm.

During National Eye Health Week 2014 (22 – 28 September), the Vision Van will tour areas most at risk of preventable sight loss due to low eye test rates, high levels of obesity, heavy smoking, and prevalence of stroke.

In addition to Newcastle, the Vision Van will visit London (19 Sept) Liverpool (23 Sept), Norwich (24 Sept) and Birmingham (25 Sept), giving free and extensive eye tests to the public, to help safeguard the UK’s future eye health.

The Van will offer free eye tests to the same high standards as Vision Express provides at its network of over 370 UK stores. The 30 minute tests are carried out by a Vision Express expert and to best practice guidelines of the College of Optometrists (COO). It includes an eye-health screening and digital retinal photography.

Vision Express Van follows a hard-hitting health campaign launched earlier this year by Vision Express called ‘Vision. Taken Seriously’. It was underpinned by research indicating that sight loss is one of the public’s biggest fears .
