First leg of trio of challenges complete for Braintree’s Ellen
Braintree fitness fanatic Ellen Colebourne has completed the first leg of an energy-sapping trio of challenges.
Ellen, who is Sales Admin at Persimmon Homes Essex, completed the London Duathlon on the weekend (September 14) in a fantastic two hours, 11 minutes and 43 seconds.
The event saw competitors take on a 10km run, followed by a 45km cycle and another 5km run around the capital’s Richmond Park.
While that would be enough for most people, Ellen is now preparing for the Oslo Marathon on Saturday (September 20), followed by the Dublin Marathon five weeks later.
Ellen, of Megs Way, said: “I was really happy with my time at the Duathlon. It was a really enjoyable day.
“It was more of a mental challenge than anything. When you get on the bike you’ve got to try and forget the fact that you’ve already run 10km.
“Oslo is next up. It’s just a week of rest and recuperation before I fly out and go for it.”
Dog lover Ellen started training when she received a ballot place for the London Marathon in 2011. She caught the running bug and once her latest challenges are complete, she will have completed seven marathons in total.
Ellen has applied to do the London Marathon again next year – but she has vowed that it will be her last marathon as the intense training is taking up too much of her time.
Persimmon Homes has already pledged £200 towards Ellen’s chosen charities and she has set up a fundraising page at https://www.justgiving.com/Ellen-Colebourne/
Ellen, who lives in Braintree with her husband, ran a scuba diving centre in Spain before she moved back to the UK in January.
She started her new job with Persimmon Homes at the beginning of July and has settled in well.
Persimmon Homes Essex has developments in Saffron Walden, Chelmsford, South Ockendon, Grays, Aveley and Romford.
