Raval delights curry lovers at Eldon Square’s Great Taste weekend
Thousands of visitors enjoyed cookery demonstrations as part of a special two-day event at Newcastle’s Eldon Square.
The Great Taste cookery roadhsow featured some of the region’s most talented chefs, cooking up a storm in the popular shopping mall and handing out samples to delighted passers by.
Among those taking part was Raval Luxury Indian Restaurant, named ‘Best Restaurant in the North East’ at the British Curry Awards, dubbed the Curry Oscars.
Its chefs cooked several dishes including Newcastle Brown Ale Curry, a dish it created to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the Tyne Bridge has year.
Mr Avi Malik, manager of the restaurant, which is located just off the Tyne Bridge in Gateshead, said: “We were thrilled to be invited to take part in Eldon Square’s Great Taste weekend.
“There was a wonderful atmosphere and our chefs did the restaurant proud. We wanted to show people why we were named Best Restaurant in the North East and I think we achieved that.
“Certainly, the feedback we received from shoppers was very positive.”
Also taking part in the annual event on September 13 and 14 were chefs from the five-star Seaham Hall Hotel, Marks and Spencer and John Lewis – and there was an appearance by former Masterchef finalist David Hall.
Meanwhile, Raval has once again been nominated for the British Curry Awards, to be held in London later this year.
Mr Malik added: “We are thrilled to be once again in the running for this prestigious award.
“It’s a great honour to be nominated and we sincerely thank the customers who put our name forward.”
