Hartlepool housing unveils £2.2 million accommodation development
Property management group, Housing Hartlepool, part of the Teesside-based Thirteen Group, has opened Hartlepool’s first student accommodation facility, having worked in partnership with construction company Gus Robinson Developments and Cleveland College of Art and Design (CCAD) on a £2.2 million residential development.
The complex, Crown Halls, has regenerated a long-disused site in the town’s Surtees Street area, providing accommodation for 56 students from CCAD.
The accommodation is made up of two apartment blocks, housing 21 students each, as well as two townhouses, for seven students each.
The development, designed by architects JDDK, also includes four bedrooms fully adapted for people with disabilities and other bedrooms that can be adapted.
Students benefit from high-speed data links, bike storage and ensuite shower rooms in the apartments, which are welcoming learners from across the UK.
Externally, the apartment blocks have secure outdoor space, with parking spaces and centrally shared gardens, designed to create communal areas.
The development is designed to be energy efficient and has solar panels fitted to the roof.
Chair Elect of the Housing Hartlepool Board, Julie Clark, said: “This is an important project for the town, making use of a derelict site and helping bring in students who will be a huge boost to the local economy.
“Making sure the town’s first halls of residence are built to Housing Hartlepool’s usual high standards sets a benchmark for other colleges and sends out a strong message that CCAD has its students’ well being at the top of its agenda.”
Principal and chief executive of CCAD, Martin Raby, said: “We’re delighted with the quality of the student residential accommodation, as are our students.
“The demand has been fantastic and all rooms were reserved by April, which highlights the need for such developments in Hartlepool.
“Our thanks go to Housing Hartlepool and Thirteen for driving this project forward and doing so to such a spectacular standard.”
