Chantrey Vellacott partners with Bloodhound SSC on R&D event

Business leaders took the chance to see the latest developments behind the Bloodhound SuperSonic Car (SSC) which will attempt to break the World Land Speed Record next year during an event held by Chantrey Vellacott.

The Thames Valley office of the top 25 UK accountancy firm partnered with Bloodhound SSC to host the event and provided an introduction to the benefits of Research and Development (R&D) tax relief, which was followed by an update from Bloodhound SSC project director Richard Noble and a Q&A session.

Figures released by HMRC show R&D claims by organisations across the country have increased by 26 per cent since 2011/12, and in the last 12 months alone Chantrey Vellacott has helped organisations to achieve R&D savings totalling £30 million.

Tax specialists from Chantrey Vellacott, based on Queens Road in Reading, have also been carrying out tax reviews for the Bloodhound SSC team.

Miles Hewitt-Boorman, partner at Chantrey Vellacott, said: “We’ve been tracking the progress of the Bloodhound SuperSonic Car project for quite a while and the event was a fantastic opportunity for us and our guests to hear all the about the latest developments.

“The project goes much further than the exciting attempt to break the World Land Speed Record, and it was really interesting to hear about the breakthroughs the team has made and the way they are inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers.

“We were also pleased to be able to give an insight into how the R&D tax relief system can support a wide range of industries and how to go about claiming support available, and offer specialist personal tax advice.”
