Quality assured - thanks to Phil

One of the UK’s leading oil blenders has reinforced its commitment to excellence by appointing a new Quality Assurance Manager.

Phil Saunders has taken on the role at Morris Lubricants, with the 27-year-old heading up the process which ensures every single product that leaves the factory is of the highest standard.

Phil said: “Morris Lubricants is a company renowned for the plethora of quality products it has to offer. Quality control and assurance has always formed an essential component within the daily operations of the company.

“My new role ensures numerous industrial test methods are carried out in accordance with internationally recognised bodies to ensure every product, whether it is an incoming raw material or finished product, passes rigorous testing.

“Our on-site laboratory facility, equipped with the latest equipment and technology enables us to achieve this.

“I’ve been able to implement a new laboratory management system so that everything is electronically stored. This means we are able to spot trends, provide beneficial production statistics and maintain a full sample history from start to finish.

“I am also currently in the process of obtaining ISO 17025 accreditation for our laboratory as we are extremely thorough about making sure that each and every product is perfect.”

Phil’s new role also sees him acting as the link between the laboratory and the company’s technical experts.

Phil graduated from the University of Glamorgan with a degree in Forensic Science and went on to work in the pharmaceutical industry in Wales. He then moved to Shrewsbury and landed a temporary job as a laboratory chemist with Morris Lubricants before he departed to work for The Forensic Science Service.

When the Government announced the closure of the FSS, Phil found his way back to Morris and now holds a management role.

Phil, who lives in Shrewsbury, added: “It’s a great company to work for with a real family feel. I’ve already seen lots of changes in the three years I’ve been here. The amount of export business has soared and areas of the company have been modernised.”

Morris Lubricants is a British company that has been manufacturing lubricants in Shrewsbury since 1869. Over 140 years of development has seen the company grow to become one of Europe’s leading oil blenders and marketers, with a reputation for quality and service. The company offers an extensive range of performance lubricants covering a wide variety of application areas.
