North Tyneside restaurateurs to open new beach front restaurant

North Tyneside restaurateurs, the Wilson family, have partnered with North Tyneside Council to begin working on a new, beach front restaurant in Tynemouth.

The restaurant with its first floor panoramic windows, lift, take-away kiosk and public toilets is being built on the site of the old public conveniences block at Longsands North.

Customers will be able to look out at the beach and sea as they enjoy a meal or drink upstairs or simply get a quick snack or drink from the takeaway kiosk on the ground floor.

The Wilson family, who also own the popular Crusoe’s restaurant further along the beach, are confident that their new venture will benefit the community and the appearance of the seafront area.

To make access and parking easier for restaurant users and seafront visitors, North Tyneside Council is carrying out a series of improvements to the road leading down to it.

This will be similar to work it recently carried out at Longsands South and will include putting in a new turning point for vehicles towards the bottom of the ramp, replacing kerb edges, resurfacing the footpath, installing new lighting and a heritage-style handrail as well as improving the footpath on nearby Beverley Terrace.

Work also includes repairs to the shelter at the top of the road and making improvements to its setting.

The building work will is expected to be completed within six months and during this time the public toilets will be closed.

Signs are in place directing people to the nearest public conveniences at Tynemouth Longsands South or Cullercoats South.

“The new Crusoe’s North Sands will be up and running by Easter offering tourists and regular beach users another excellent restaurant selling good quality food and drink at reasonable prices in a wonderful setting.”

Elected Mayor, Norma Redfearn, said: “Quality developments such as this are further proof that our promised multi-million pound transformation of the seafront is well underway.

“Council officers have been working with the Wilson family - who have run a successful business in Tynemouth for many years - and together they have produced what will be an attractive and much needed facility with revamped toilets, an improved road, better parking, lovely handrails and new lighting.

“I’m sure the new Crusoe’s North Sands will soon become a firm favourite and I wish the Wilson family all the very best with their new venture.”
