Children celebrate milestone birthday with climbing and cake
A group of North East youngsters joined activity experts at the weekend to undertake a day of climbing, laser clay shooting and fun at Calvert Trust Kielder as part of its 30th Birthday celebrations.
50 children with special needs from Morpeth’s Collingwood School were treated to the day out, and with the sun shining they bravely tackled the indoor climbing wall, enjoyed the thrill of the ‘King Swing’, and scaled the mobile climbing tower.
In between challenges there was also face painting, balloons and of course lots of Birthday cake.
Local charity Cash for Kids teamed up with Calvert Trust Kielder to arrange the fun day out and also provided the transport to the centre in Kielder Water & Forest Park.
Stephanie Simpson, regional charity manager at Cash for Kids, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Calvert Trust Kielder, and helping them to celebrate 30 years of success.
“Opportunities to visit places like Calvert Trust Kielder and take part in all of the fantastic activities and entertainment they provided was a real treat for the children who came along. The staff and instructors were great, perfect motivators and really good at getting everyone involved regardless of ability.
“Everyone had a wonderful day and will have some great memories. Calvert Trust Kielder is an amazing place for everyone. I hope it has many more years of success.”
Corporate & Events fundraiser at Calvert Trust Kielder Hazel Ditchburn helped organise the event. She said: “Everyone involved agreed it was a brilliant day. It was fantastic to see the children enjoying themselves, supporting each other and accomplishing some pretty amazing feats.
“Our 30th Birthday is a big celebration for us and one which we were delighted to share with the children thanks to Cash for Kids. Calvert Trust Kielder makes such a positive difference to everyone who comes along, people of all ages and abilities. Hopefully some of the children will return with their families, friends and carers for another great day out soon.”
The centre is open to anyone who would like to take part in adventurous activities. They offer both half and full days, drop-in sessions during school holidays, and family tickets (2 adults and up to 3 children) which include morning and afternoon activity sessions plus lunch and refreshments for just £150.
