Key appointment to drive Creative North campaign

A new Business Development Manager has been appointed to help develop the Creative North campaign and boost apprenticeships in the North of England.

Ellie Tucker joins the campaign, having spent three years working with Creating Careers, most recently as Business Development Manager. Her new role will be to engage with businesses, organisations, schools, colleges, training providers and young people, to help create apprenticeship opportunities.

Ellie said: “This represents a great opportunity for me to engage with the very best creative and digital media companies, and of course the creative people that have worked so hard to make it such a successful sector for the region.

“Creative North’s research has shown local young people hold the view that London is the place to be to build a career in the industry. We’re aiming to challenge that perception by shouting about all the great places to work, such as here at the Northern Design Centre in Gateshead, and the successes of our companies right across the whole region.

“I myself saw the appeal of the north, moving here from Brighton in 2011. In the last three years, I have been incredibly impressed with the creativity of the region and the opportunities available. Having worked as a volunteer with a number of creative organisations in the region, I’ve seen first-hand just why Creative North is needed. We’ve a convincing story to tell, and I’m looking forward to being a key part of this important campaign to spread the word.”

Led by Rob Earnshaw, Director of the Youth Training Academy, Creative North aims to create 200 creative apprenticeships for local students with regional businesses by August 2015.

Rob said: “The campaign has been established to create greater recognition of the career opportunities available in the region, to stop talent leaving the area and boost the businesses involved. Ellie’s role is to bring the parties together in a way which creates apprenticeships that attract young talent to businesses in the region and help retain their skills in the North of England.

Creative North aims to sign up the support of 500 creative businesses, schools and organisations, and have 150 of those businesses engage with schools and training programmes by August 2015. It is also planning to promote the region as a place to work in the creative industry to young people from outside of the region, and attract 100 of these young talented individuals to take apprenticeships in the North of England.
