Redcar engineering company in wave of contract wins
Redcar-based engineering company Haden Freeman Ltd is celebrating a successful first half of the year following a raft of new contract wins across the North East.
The firm, which provides design and project management in the process industries, puts the growth down to the increasing buoyancy and investment in the North East engineering and manufacturing industries.
This year has already seen Haden Freeman deliver front-end project design for expansion work at Akzo Nobel’s Felling site, an innovative pre-feed design solution for Applied Graphene, and a research project for Fujifilm Dyosynth Biotechnologies in Teesside.
Meanwhile, it is also carrying out technical projects for Peterlee-based speciality chemicals companies, Momentive, County Durham-based Thomas Swan & Co, and Redcar-based steel plant, SSI UK.
Managing Director at Haden Freeman, Wayne Baxter, said: “Our business in the North East has gone from strength-to-strength, largely as a result of ambitious investment and expansion from some of the biggest manufacturers in the region.
“This is helping cement the North East’s reputation as an engineering and manufacturing powerhouse, recognisable on a global scale, and we are excited to be part of that.
“However, whilst the region’s manufacturing sector is making huge strides forward, there is a real risk that the on-going skills gap could have a detrimental impact on the industry’s growth.
“Although recent developments such as South Durham University Technical College (UTC), which is set to be completed by 2016, will go a long way to combatting the skills gap, it’s still vital that firm’s across the North East need to put resource into marketing themselves more effectively, communicating their achievements and tapping into the imagination of our up and coming talented engineers.
“We have recently taken on an apprentice studying towards a HND in Mechanical Engineering who is proving a real asset to the team.”
