Stewart & Harris Complete Wolverhampton Racecourse Project
Stewart & Harris, Patrick Parsons’ Birmingham office, has recently provided professional civil engineering advice at Wolverhampton Racecourse.
The course, which is one mile in diameter, is Britain’s first flood lit racing track, running both day and night races. Hosting almost 100 fixtures this year, the racecourse’s underlying ground beneath the artificial running surface was in need of repair.
Stewart & Harris provided advice on the repair and re-laying of 28,000 square meters of Macadam surfacing – a technique involving single sized aggregate layers of stones with a coating of binder, and carried out porosity validation tests on the underlying surface to ensure the sub-grade was sufficient for a new multi-million pound artificial surface. The project was completed on time for racing to resume in August.
