Blackpool and The Fylde College invests £1.6 million in new creative facilities

Blackpool and The Fylde College has invested £1.6 million over the summer to further develop its creative arts facilities.

Improvements include relocating Further Education and school leaver provision, previously delivered at the Park Road campus, to the University Centre.

Other investments include a new TV studio and a new digital drawing lab featuring Apple Macs, drawing tablets and the latest digital technology plus a Digital Hub where external briefs will be taken for Graphic Design and Illustration projects.

Students will be able to develop their entrepreneurial skills and prepare for future employment by utilising a new Enterprise Centre, which has been created for students to sell their work.

In addition, the School will take commissions from external companies or individuals for the first time covering everything from photography, fine art and jewellery to web design and coding.

The faculty has been renamed as the School of Creative Arts and Digital Industries to account for B&FC’s expanding digital media provision, which now includes progression onto a full BA (hons) degree.

Meanwhile, five existing degree programmes were revalidated last year to align them more closely to the future needs of industry and Graduate jobs.

Head of school, Nigel Brown, said: “Blackpool and The Fylde College is an outstanding provider of both further and higher education in the North West and further afield. Our School of Creative Arts and Digital Industries has continued to evolve in the last few years with expansion of the curriculum on offer.

“Students have been part of the planning and have informed the design process at every stage to enhance their overall experience. Our returning and new students have welcomed the changes that have been made and are enjoying the refurbished environment.”
