Medlock checks in with Premier Inn

Construction and fit-out specialist Medlock FRB has secured contracts worth a total of £1.75 million to build extensions at two Premier Inn hotels.

Medlock will construct a three-storey extension at the Stafford North Premier Inn near junction 14 of the M6, and a two-storey extension at Yeadon, half a mile from Leeds-Bradford Airport.

The Stafford North development will add 30 bedrooms and Medlock is also creating a corridor linking the existing hotel with the new block. The Yeadon extension will add 18 bedrooms.

In both cases, Medlock’s scope of works includes the foundations followed by full construction and fit-outs.

The projects are due to be completed by the end of January.

Premier Inn is the UK’s biggest hotel brand with more than 670 sites and over 55,000 bedrooms.

Owner Whitbread aims to reach 75,000 bedrooms by 2018, with a goal of adding 4,500 new rooms during the current financial year.

Steve Taylor, head of business development at Medlock, said: “Premier Inn is a hugely-successful brand with exacting standards, and we are delighted to have been chosen to deliver these projects and be part of Whitbread’s nationwide expansion strategy.

“We have extensive experience of successfully completing new-build projects for leisure and hospitality clients, and these latest ones follow on closely from other significant contracts in these sectors on both sides of the Pennines.

“They are further positive indications of confidence returning to the market, and we remain well-placed to capitalise on this upward trend.”

Medlock has recently announced contracts to fit-out a new Fazenda restaurant in Manchester city centre, to convert a former bank into a cinema in Sheffield, and £4.7 million of pub projects across the north west, Yorkshire and Scotland.
