Bartering boost for Little Heroes
Bartering boost for Little Heroes
The Little Heroes Cancer Trust, a charity that provides ongoing and practical support for children living with cancer, is set to auction – or ‘barter’ – a signed Hull FC Rugby League 2014 shirt to fund a new getaway for children and their families in the Great Little Heroes Up-Swap Challenge.
Working with Bartercard, the UK’s largest business-to-business trade exchange, the charity will invite individuals or local businesses to ‘up-swap’ goods or services in order to create a continuous bartering chain of increasing value, starting with the ‘Black and Whites’ fully signed Rugby shirt.
The ultimate goal for the Little Heroes Cancer Trust is to reach a trade in value of over £40,000 to enable the charity to invest in a new 10-berth caravan. It will not only provide a much needed break for the children and their families away from hospital but in an environment where they can spend some quality time together.
Speaking about the challenge, Richard Sara-Gray, Business Development Manager for the Little Heroes Cancer Trust said: “We purchased a 10-berth caravan, sited in Newquay from the generous donations we’ve received from our supports. The caravan is substantially over subscribed and increasing in demand as news of the success of the first caravan has spread. We would love to be able to say ‘yes’ to all of the families with children who have cancer and need our help, which is why we’re now looking to expand.”
Richard continued: “We are extremely grateful to all those within the Bartercard family who have helped us achieve our goal so far and we look forward to the offers for the Great Little Heroes Cancer Trust Up-Swap challenge start to roll in.”
The new caravan will offer a secure environment for children and their families. It has wheelchair access and has already proven to be an important distraction for so many who have turned to the charity for help. The second caravan will be situated on the East Coast where it will help extend the availability and national reach of The Little Heroes Cancer Trust services.
In the UK, 1,600 children are diagnosed with cancer each year with one in 500 children developing some form of cancer by 14 years of age. The highest incident rates for all childhood cancers combined occurs in under-fives for both sexes with almost half (47%) of all childhood cases being diagnosed in this age group.*
Brian Whitford, Marketing Services Manager for Bartercard UK Ltd, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Little Heroes Cancer Trust to the Bartercard network and to kick-off this very worthy challenge to support the children and families the charity works so hard to support. We can’t wait to see how local businesses respond to the challenge and look forward to offering our further support to the team in the future.”
