Liverpool events and conferencing industry generates £39 million for economy
Since the start of the year, more than 20,000 overseas delegates have visited the city for conferences, according to a report commissioned by the ECHO Arena and BT Convention Centre (ACC Liverpool) and Liverpool Convention Bureau.
European Society of Biomaterials conference took place in September at the riverside site, attracting more than 1,000 delegates to the city and bringing £1.8 million to the local economy.
There are several major international events taking place this month including EuroLabFocus and the European Society of Surgical Oncology,
Other venues in the city boasted events such as the International Conference on Sensing Technology, at Liverpool John Moores University, and the Public Administration Conference UK at the University of Liverpool’s Foresight Centre.
The economic impact of these conferences, including accommodation, retail and social events, is estimated to be around £39m.
Kerrin MacPhie, ACC Liverpool director of sales, said: “Liverpool has had a successful year with a number of international conferences. At ACC Liverpool we have more in the pipeline.
“We have a further eight potential events we have submitted bids for. If these confirm they will generate a further £22 million for the city region.”
