Mechan Quartet Hits City Streets to Aid Local Hospital

Four rail depot equipment specialists from Sheffield-based Mechan have swapped train tracks for tarmac to raise £1,500 for the city’s Children’s Hospital.

The team tackled the Great Yorkshire Run, held in Sheffield city centre, to support the local children’s charity, finishing runners up in the men’s small business category.

This is the second consecutive year Mechan managing director, Richard Carr, has participated in the fundraising event, covering the 10 kilometre course in 55 minutes. He was joined by engineering director, Martin Berry and installation and service engineer, Jonathan Smith, who recorded times of 44 and 45 minutes respectively. The group was completed by project manager, Dean Fisher, who came home on the hour.

Richard said: “My colleagues and I really enjoyed this year’s Great Yorkshire Run, which receives fantastic support from spectators and we were all pleased with our finishing times. I’d like to thank the friends and suppliers from across the rail industry that backed our efforts so generously and enabled us to make such a large donation to Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Most of Mechan’s employees live in and around South Yorkshire and the parents among us feel very lucky to have this excellent medical facility on our doorstep.”
