SITS spots change in sector trends

BUSINESSES across the UK are changing the way they source IT, according to a leading North East cloud consultancy.

Cramlington-based SITS Group, which specialises in on-premises cloud solutions for private and public sector businesses, claims companies are no longer favouring a one stop shop approach to purchasing technology.

Instead of hiring one firm to provide umbrella IT assistance, SITS, at Berrymoor Court, Northumberland Business Park, says switched on businesses looking for quality and value are increasingly seeking service specific technology providers.

“Until very recently many relatively large companies took the view that it was less bother and perfectly practical for one company to service all their IT needs,” said technical director Russell Henderson.

“However, that is changing. Businesses are realising that investment in their IT capabilities gives them a considerable advantage over their competitors and it is actually less hassle to hire a number of specialist firms than it is to hire one Jack-of- all-trades.”

SITS Group primarily works with organisations where 100 or more employees operate computers and provides all aspects of cloud computing, from virtual desktops and server consolidation, to cloud management and disaster recovery solutions.

Clients include around 20 per cent of the North East’s top 200 companies, such as Bond Dickinson, The Banks Group LTD, ISOS Housing, Aesica Pharmaceuticals, Muckle LLP, Unipres UK LTD and Port of Tyne.

One client, who has reviewed the way in which it sources IT provision and expertise is The Banks Group. Jon Barnett, Head of IT said: “Virtualisation introduces an unavoidable level of complexity into an IT infrastructure and with the success of virtualisation projects underpinned not just by server specification, but also LAN and storage capability, it is essential to use a technology partner that understands this.

When projects have to be delivered with tighter budgets and more aggressive timescales, it is essential to deliver ‘right first time’. I’ve found the best way to manage this is to engage a specialist in this field.“
