ABP Doncaster raises vital funds and awareness for local family

ABP Doncaster, provider of world-class meat products, held a bake sale this month to help raise vital funds for a local family. The £400 raised is being donated to Zach Kilkenny, a local six-year-old boy who was diagnosed with MoyaMoya disease - a progressive illness that affects one in one million children.

Following a stroke whilst on holiday in Barcelona with his family this August, Zach was diagnosed with the progressive condition. Since then, an impressive £19,000 has been raised by ABP and Zach’s family, with the vital funds being used to support Zach’s occupational therapy and future surgery to help reduce the likelihood of another stroke.

ABP General Manager at Doncaster, Katharine Haenelt, commented: “When we heard of Zach’s condition and the support his family required, we were more than willing to roll up our sleeves and provide as much help to raise awareness and funds as possible. Zach’s mother, Jane Kilkenny, is an employee here at Doncaster, so this is a cause very close to our hearts. We are urging the local community to help us in our mission to raise money for Zach and support his family through this difficult journey.” Jane Kilkenny, Zach’s mother and PA at ABP Doncaster, commented: “We have been overwhelmed by the support ABP Doncaster has shown for Zach and our family – to have raised £19,000 in just over a month provides us with the hope and funds we need to help Zach.”

Jane continued: “Zach has been diagnosed with a very rare, serious and progressive brain condition, MoyaMoya, which affects just one in a million children. This disease, coupled with a blood disorder Zach has, makes him one of only five children in the world known to be suffering these conditions, which cause recurrent and more severe strokes. The funds raised will be used to support Zach throughout his illness and ultimately help us to get Zach surgery that will reduce the likelihood of further strokes.”
