Best of the best unveiled for Dynamites 14 awards

Hundreds of business leaders from the North East’s booming IT and technology sector will tomorrow honour the cream of the industry’s creative talent at the inaugural Dynamites 14 awards.

The biggest, newest, brightest and the best comprise the 85 entrants to the awards on Wednesday (October 15), competing for a wealth of top accolades for excellence.

Dynamites 14 – the North East’s IT and Technology Awards – will be a ‘who’s who’ of North East tech talent. It will bring together more than 300 leaders from the sector at Newcastle’s Civic Centre banqueting hall to celebrate their industry.

The awards sponsored by BT feature categories aimed at exciting start-ups through to established global companies as well as innovators and skills leaders.

Included in the entries are:

ZeroLight – Its stunning 3D virtual showrooms developed in Gateshead allowing the automotive retail market to better showcase available models, upgrades and areas of customisation

Girls and Gadgets – Teesside University’s pioneering events engaging girls aged 14 to 18 in computing, with inspiration provided by top women IT entrepreneurs

Palringo – the staggeringly successful mobile community gaming app developed in Cramlington and now boasting 27m users across the globe

The Dynamites awards were created by Dynamo North East. The strength of the region’s IT tech sector has been brought together under the banner of Dynamo to work on behalf of the industry.

It is striving to promote the sector nationally, to educate more schoolchildren about the high quality jobs available in the industry and to ensure talented North East graduates and school leavers are at the head of the queue for these jobs.

Charlie Hoult, Dynamo Chairman, said: “‘There’s been an explosion of IT and tech talent in the North East in the past few years and Dynamites 14 will officially recognise that excellence.

“The awards are a national showcase for our IT sector which is now recognised as one of the most important outside of London.

“The award entries take in the whole spectrum of North East talent. There are new and growing firms as well as larger more established names in the public and private sectors.

“The judges were overwhelmed by the scope and quality of the nominations we received and we only arrived at our shortlist after long and careful deliberation.”
