Newcastle entrepreneur launches new children’s retail concept in Gosforth

Newcastle entrepreneur Minna Scaife has opened a new children’s retail concept store, Pikku, in Gosforth, Newcastle after receiving funding from PNE group.

On Friday, Pikku, a brand new children’s clothing store and adjoining children’s hairdressing salon opened on Gosforth High Street.

The store, which will feature clothing for newborn babies to the age of 6, will include a range of exclusive, mid-high end brands, which aren’t on sale anywhere else in Newcastle.

Pikku Hair, the adjoining children’s hair salon, offers a special for children to have their haircut, taking the stress away from parents at the same time.

Minna’s venture was partially self-funded, and partially funding by business support agency PNE Group.

Pikku, which means ‘Little One’ in Finnish, will sell a wide range of clothing brands, some of which are exclusive to the UK.

Pikku also stocks a stunning collection of christening and formal wear for all those unique occasions.

Pikku currently employs 4 staff at the new concept store idea in Newcastle, with plans to extend across the North East and then the rest of the UK.

Minna Scaife said: “I’m originally from Finland and used to work in Formula 1. But after meeting a Geordie I moved to Newcastle, got married and had a baby!

“My story, in that sense, is quite unique. I’m now pregnant with my second child and I’ve noticed how difficult it is to find unique children’s clothing – something that I share with many fellow Mums. “

I wanted to create something special that’s not available on the high street. Children, even at a young age, have such a unique style and I wanted to celebrate that. And it is great to be able to support our local High Street with a brand new shopping experience“.
