Biggest StartUp Saturday - Back for 2014

The Biggest StartUp Saturday event is back for 2014 – and is set to help more than 250 budding entrepreneurs get their business ideas off the ground during Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Small business network Enterprise Nation has teamed up with the British Library for the second year running to host the mighty day-long start-up session on Saturday November 22.

The class will be hosted by best-selling author and small business expert Emma Jones MBE, founder of Enterprise Nation, co-founder of national enterprise campaign StartUp Britain and chairman of online youth careers platform Plotr.

The day will offer a step-by-step guide to getting started, plus practical tips from a panel of former ‘StartUp Saturday students’ who have already set up successful firms after being inspired by previous events run by Emma.

Emma said:The number of people starting businesses in the UK has exploded - and this year we’re on track to hit yet another record.

“Last year an incredible 526,446 companies were registered in the UK. This year it’s likely to be nearer 600K. Today, 70 per cent of new businesses are started from home, by people who have spirit and ambition – and want to take control of their own career by embarking on an exciting start-up journey.

“The British Library, which has a Business & IP Centre, dedicated to helping entrepreneurs to start up and grow their business, is a very appropriate venue for this annual event and will make a fitting haven at the end of what will have been a very eventful week in the entrepreneurial calendar.“

Isabel Oswell, Head of Business and Research Audiences at the British Library said,We’re thrilled to be hosting this year’s Biggest Ever StartUpp Saturday! We’ve helped over 400,000 entrepreneurs to start up and scale up their businesses since we opened in 2006, through giving them free access to our business collections and expertise and connecting them to our wide range of business experts and experienced entrepreneurs. StartUp Saturday will be the closing event in a season of networking at the Business & IP Centre and its national network, as we focus on helping entrepreneurs to make invaluable connections during this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Week.“

The panel will include Michael Litman, founder of micro content publishing firm We are Burst and data analysis firm Brands on Vine, Ksenia Tkacheva, founder of personal gifting site Wishwant and peanut butter entrepreneur Akeem Ojuko, the man behind The Wild Peanut.

In the space of a day attendees will discover all they need to know about starting a business; coming up with an idea, writing a business plan, making sales, creating a home on the web and keeping on top of the books – it will also offer friendly advice for businesses that are already started about how to it to the next level and grow.
