Female entrepreneur up for several awards
CRAFTER’S Companion founder Sara Davies has been announced as a finalist for several high-profile national and regional business awards in the same week.
The Durham-born entrepreneur has been shortlisted as a finalist for no fewer than three prizes at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, which celebrate the contributions and innovations of British entrepreneurs and their impact on the economy.
She is a finalist in the Creative Industries Entrepreneur of the Year, Retail Entrepreneur of the Year and Young Entrepreneur of the Year categories. The winners will be named at a glamourous ceremony in London next month.
Sara, 30, has also been shortlisted for the Women in Business 2014 Yorkshire and North East Awards in both the International Business and Retail categories. These awards are run by support organisation Forward Ladies and look to recognise the contribution of women across the north.
She said: “I feel incredibly humbled to have been shortlisted for such high-profile awards and feel honoured to have been named alongside such well respected, successful entrepreneurs and professionals.
“Award recognition like this is purely a reflection on the hard work, innovation and determination of my amazing team. It might be my name up for the award, but it’s my staff who should be taking the credit for the company’s successful few years.”
Craft supplies business Crafter’s Companion now employs over 60 people across its County Durham headquarters and its US operation in California.
The company specialises in the manufacture and distribution of crafting tools along with its own brand goods. Its products are sold online via its website, via TV shopping channels across the world and through independent retail shops in the UK and Europe.
Since founding the company in 2005 whilst at university, Sara has become a global star to crafting enthusiasts worldwide. This is her latest award success after scooping a Shell Women of the Future Award for Entrepreneur of the Year and an international Stevie® Award for Women in Business in last year.
As well as running Crafter’s Companion, Sara is an angel investor with Gabriel Investors and acts as a business mentor through Entrepreneurs’ Forum and UKTI. She was also the founding board chair at the Craft Hobby Association UK.
