Increase in demand for new homes in Melton Mowbray

A regional housebuilder has reported an increase in demand for new build properties as it opens its latest showhome in Melton Mowbray.

Persimmon Homes North Midlands is building a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes at Scholar’s Grange and registered a record number of potential buyers over the weekend.

Sherrie Hankin, head of sales for Persimmon Homes North Midlands, said: “This new development provides a stunning range of house designs and we’ve been taken aback by the amount of interest in the site.

“We have secured nine sales since launching the development to a wide cross-section of buyers, including first-time, families and investors.

“It is situated on the outskirts of Melton Mowbray, and has beautiful surroundings as the town lies along the River Eye and River Wreake. The town dates back to the Bronze and Iron Ages and there is also evidence of Roman occupation.

“The development will offer the best of both worlds providing country living together with great transport links. Melton railway station is on the line from Birmingham to Stansted Airport and goes to Leicester, Peterborough and Cambridge. The town also has access to the A607, A606 and A46 which give access all around the country.”

Schemes are available to help buyers move into their dream home, including the Government-backed Help to Buy.

Under the shared equity scheme, buyers only need a 5% deposit and are eligible for a 20% loan on the term of a mortgage, which is interest and repayment free for the first five years.

Sherrie added: “Home Change is also available and, if you are eligible, we arrange at least two valuations, agree a market price and use our expertise to help sell your existing property, with all estate agency fees paid. Help to Buy is also available with Home Change. We can also Part Exchange as we aim to take away the stress of selling your own home.”
