More firms in the North East utilising contractors to ease workload

The North East recruitment market has improved substantially following a challenging few years, according to a new report.

The latest employment trends report from Venn Group, the contract recruitment specialists, found that there has been a 12% increase in the number of vacancies quarter-on-quarter. This is line with findings from the North East Chamber of Commerce which found that four out of ten businesses in the region were operating at full capacity and will need to utilise specialist professionals.

The region has suffered with a challenging recruitment market throughout the downturn; however this latest increase in vacancies indicates that this could be the beginning of an upward curve for the North East jobs market.

Stan Murray-Hession, director of operations in the region commented on the results. “The figures are extremely encouraging and point towards a significant improvement within the hiring markets. The North-East has struggled in recent times but it appears that we’re finally moving away from the downturn and into a more optimistic future.”

“The main demand that we’ve noted has been from the public sector, particularly in council tax and benefits and revenue positions as councils look to recruit staff in the lead up to year end. NHS activity was perhaps slightly slower than it could have been as a result of delays to budget announcements. However, with an increased focus on driving efficiency within the health service prompting the need for specialists with financial analysis and reporting expertise, we expect the market will continue to pick up as we move towards year end.”
