Adderstone Group recruit largest intake of apprentices to date

Newcastle based property development company, Adderstone Group has strengthened its ranks after taking on its largest ever cohort of apprentices in a single year.

The initiative has seen the Group recruit more than 10 work-based apprentices in a number of roles including technical and administrative fields across the business.

Adderstone Group has been a strong supporter of work-based apprenticeship schemes and, over the past 12 years, over 70 apprentices have successfully completed schemes within the organisation.

Adderstone Group recently welcomed 11 apprentices undertaking a variety of courses within businesses across Adderstone Group’s portfolio through schemes managed by the North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC), the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and ARC recruitment. This year’s recruits include five apprentices at staircase business and joinery specialist, Gosforth Joinery and both site and office staff at Adderstone Construction, the dedicated new build and refurbishment contractor.

The apprentices will have the opportunity to work across the Group’s portfolio of businesses which include property development, construction, management, joinery and lettings where they will gain skills, on-site knowledge and networking opportunities.

The apprentices include 18-year-old Chris Perry from Wallsend who is in his second year of an apprenticeship scheme as a technical apprentice within Adderstone Construction. Chris studies at Newcastle College.

Chris said: “I’ve been with the company for over a year now and I have felt a real difference in my skills base and confidence. The on the job training and hands-on approach provide a great opportunity for me to put newly acquired skills into practice whilst building contacts and knowledge as I go.”

Allison Harrison, Group Operations Director at Adderstone Group has been delighted with the impact the apprenticeship scheme has had and continues to have across the business. She said: “In the last 12 years we have seen many of our apprentices bringing fantastic qualities to our portfolio of companies and, as a result, this year we have welcomed our largest group of new starters. “The apprentices invariably bring ideas, qualities and enthusiasm to the role and, as a result, many have made a significant impression during their time here. The work they have done has been of great benefit to Adderstone Group as well as to their overall experience and career development.”

The apprentices will work on a selection of projects including large scale contracts with national house builders at Gosforth Joinery, and Adderstone Group’s multi-million pound property developments including the 254-bed Stepney Yard student accommodation in Ouseburn.
