Development plans a boost for Kirklevington village community

A traditional yet newly created village centre with enhanced local amenities, landscaped green, public square and significantly improved community facilities which could include tennis courts, cricket pitch, children’s play area, walks and local transport connections, are part of a proposed development put forward to meet a growing need for housing in and around Kirklevington, Yarm.

The plans, being outlined by property development company, Jomast, would contribute to a Government requirement for each Council to significantly boost the supply of housing whereby Stockton Borough Council recognise Kirklevington as a sustainable village for development.

Proposals put forward by the property developer would retain and improve the existing character, appearance and sustainability of the village and include a vibrant mix of new housing, community uses, sports facilities, local retail store and public space.

Key views, including the Grade II listed Church of St. Martin, would be identified and protected and a new village centre with public car park would also be created close to Pump Lane. This would provide a much needed facility for the school, church and other community facilities as well as relieving congestion along Forest Lane.

Jomast is therefore inviting members of the public to come along and put forward any comments at a public consultation event taking place from 3pm-7pm on Monday 3rd November 2014 at Kirklevington Village Hall, Forest Lane, Kirklevington TS15 9LX. Images of the proposed development will be on display and representatives from Jomast and the project team including planning consultants, Steve Hesmondhalgh & Associates LLP, and Plus3 Architecture, will be present.

Adam Hearld, Jomast Development Director, commented, “We have spent a considerable amount of time and effort creating a scheme that retains and builds upon the strength and traditional character of Kirklevington whilst also recognising the importance of new housing to meet demand and contribute to the sustainability of the village, its facilities and local enterprise.

“Our overarching vision is to deliver a range of high quality homes and community facilities that contribute positively to the village. Our residential provision would create a heavily landscaped setting and homes which could accommodate first time buyers, families and the elderly. This, along with much improved community facilities such as a dedicated village green, new public spaces and recreational provision, would bring significant benefits to Kirklevington and the wider community.

“Residents’ views will be sought in respect of the layout, house types and preferred mix of community uses and sports facilities. We are pleased to be in a position to consult with them.”

The development proposals include a combination of new housing, community and recreational facilities and would bring significant economic benefits and employment opportunities.

Subject to the outcome of the public consultation event, Jomast anticipates submitting the planning application early in 2015.
