Dyer Engineering relocate and create 25 new jobs following £2.5 million investment

North East engineering firm Dyer Engineering have found new premises, as part of a £2.5 million investment, creating 25 new jobs with more to follow.

Dyer has increased its production capacity to almost 90,000 sq ft with the move to its new manufacturing facilities in Harelaw, where it has taken a long-term lease.

The deal breathes new life into the former Schmitz Cargobull site, which has stood empty since the trailer manufacturer exited the area in 2011.

The move allows Dyer Engineering to meet increased demand for its fabrication and manufacturing services from the oil & gas and subsea industries.

With the additional space, Dyer Engineering has become one of the region’s largest precision machining and fabrication businesses.

The expansion is part of a £2.5 million investment programme, which includes a £651k Regional Growth Fund grant secured through the Let’s Grow Fund.

The new facility will be utilised for the production of larger, bespoke fabrications to complement the Annfield Plain site, which will focus on repeat, batch production products.

Located within two miles of its existing site, the new facility includes full overhead craneage as well as offering office and meeting spaces.

Partner at Sanderson Weatherall in Newcastle, Richard Scott, said: “This was a thriving site under its previous occupiers, so there is huge satisfaction in concluding a deal, which will see it restored to a place filled with a strong and growing workforce.

“This is an ideal move for Dyer Engineering, which is a forward-thinking business in a growth industry, and we wish the team well in its new home.”

Managing Director of Dyer Engineering, Graeme Parkins, said: “With the support of Sanderson Weatherall, we have found a site which really meets our present and future needs.

“These premises will support our plans, allowing space to continue growing and serving our existing and new clients.

“We see a bright future, working with the offshore sector to achieve growth and create jobs, here in County Durham.”
