Corporate Profile: Adder Technology

Adder Technology is a KVM (keyboard, video and mouse) connectivity specialist based in Cambridge. Founded in 1984 by Adrian Dickens, an engineering graduate from Cambridge University, the company now has a global presence with offices throughout Europe, the USA, Hong Kong and China. Its head office remains in Cambridge, as does its innovation and manufacturing centre where all Adder products are manufactured and developed. Adder exports 80 per cent of its solutions to a global market.

As KVM has developed over the decades, Adder have been at the forefront of the technology advancement. With a strong focus on research and development, the company has developed a number of world-first product concepts. Adder’s range of products includes digital matrices, KVM switches, extenders and other IP based high performance solutions.

The company differentiates itself within the market through its use and development of IP-based KVM solutions that leverage an organisation’s existing network infrastructure, IP, to deliver business benefits in terms of cost reduction, reliability and operational benefits in increasing flexibility and scalability.

These IP-based high performance solutions are deployed in a host of industries and applications, including command and control, air traffic control, audio visual, banking, broadcast, and data centres.

Adder’s range of KVM switches allow users to access and control multiple computing resources from one keyboard, monitor and mouse, bringing added flexibility and efficiency to IT systems and reducing the technical complexity of operations. The company’s extension products assist in making workspaces safer, cleaner and more comfortable by allowing the physical computers to be separated from the users, yet made accessible via keyboard and mouse whilst improving environmental and security factors at the computers location.

Since establishment, Adder has grown significantly, effectively doubling in size every five years. In 2012 the company relocated within Cambridge to accommodate this growth. The new site featured a state-of-the-art technical lab four times the size of its predecessor and remains its hub of innovation.

In 2014 the company won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the innovation category for its pioneering ADDERLink Infinity solution, a hardware-based digital KVM matrix used for controlling and distributing digital video signals. It was also named in the FAST50 growth awards for eight successive years.

Adder Technology remains focused on innovation and meeting the evolving needs of each industry in which it operates. This pioneering spirit has been the key to the company’s longevity and will continue to be the driving force going forward.
