Stark Warning Issued To Homeowners Ahead Of Worst Cold Snap For A Century

A local insurance assessor has issued a stark warning to Nottinghamshire homeowners today, as the worst cold snap for over a century looks set to bring insurance claims totalling up to over £680m

Alan Barker of Aspray, has warned that last year alone, burst pipes in Nottinghamshire cost the average homeowner up to £2000, with many of those insured, being let down by their current providers.

Alan said: “Just because you are insured against frozen or burst pipes, does not necessarily mean that the insurance company will successfully pay-out in the event of an accident. Many private landlords and homeowners are shocked by some of the loop holes used by insurance companies, with many struggling to get the cover they are entitled to.

“In this case, homeowners may need to contact a buildings insurance claims management business such as ourselves to package a claim effectively, in order to get the most from the claims process and improve your chances of making a successful claim.”

Heavy and persistent snow, freezing gales and sub-zero temperatures threaten to grind the country to a standstill for up to FIVE MONTHS, coming as a bitter shock, after the recent mild conditions have lulled many into a false sense of security.

Experts echo that January will see signs of ‘record lows’, with certain parts of the country seeing the mercury plunge to -27C.

Alan continued: “Just a small fracture to a water pipe can cause extensive damage to your home or business premises. To avoid frozen or burst pipes, insulate your loft and the sides of your water tanks, insulate all pipes, and if you are away for a while, ask a friend or relative to check on your home and make sure pipes haven’t burst or frozen.

“It is also advisable to re-washer dripping taps because if they freeze they will block the pipe, and in very cold weather the heating will need to be on low, or set to come on a couple of times a day.”
