Crystal Palace ex-footballer to open academy in Greater Manchester
A fitness business set up by football manager Dougie Freedman and former Crystal Palace player Gavin Heeroo has opened an academy in Greater Manchester for people looking to become qualified personal trainers.
Focus Fitness UK has established a base at Conavon Court, Blackfriars Street, Salford.
Intensive, six-week training courses leading to nationally-recognised diplomas in fitness instructing and personal training will start in mid-November under the guidance of education manager Anne-Marie Knott, 33.
Subjects taught will include anatomy, physiology, nutrition and how to design exercise programmes and warm-up and cool-down routines.
Health and safety, customer service and communication skills will also form part of the curriculum.
Gavin Heeroo said: “Following the success of our academy in London, we are expanding into other regions and have chosen Greater Manchester for our first venue.
“We are confident our new venture will be a great success. Fitness has become a way of life in modern Britain, and Greater Manchester has seen huge growth in the number of gyms and fitness centres.
“We are currently looking at establishing academies in other UK towns and cities, including Birmingham and Leeds, as well as overseas.”
