CAU to open first northern restaurant in Liverpool

CAU, the restaurant group offering contemporary cuisine inspired by the vibrancy, colour and cultural diversity of Buenos Aires, is to open its first northern venue at Queen Insurance Buildings in Liverpool.

The restaurant will occupy a 6,000 sq ft site that was formerly home to Britannia Building Society, DWF and Martin’s newsagent on the Castle Street side of the Bruntwood-owned building.

CAU is owned by the team behind Gaucho and currently has eight UK outlets and one in Amsterdam, all serving a range of South American inspired steaks, burgers and salads.

Bruntwood will shortly commence work on site, enabling CAU to begin its fit-out early next year.

Charley Springall, marketing director at CAU restaurants, said: “When we launched CAU, our vision was to create a restaurant that captured the vitality, passion and sense of fun that makes Buenos Aires such a wonderful place to be.

“We have been keen for some time to open our first outlet in the north and Liverpool was top of our list, but we felt it was important to identify the perfect location for such a venture.

“The historic Queen Insurance Buildings is the ideal location for our northern flagship and gives us an excellent platform from which to introduce the distinct taste of Argentina to the city.”

Toby Sproll, head of retail and leisure at Bruntwood, said: “CAU is a fresh, dynamic restaurant group that has already earned an excellent reputation for serving high quality food in a contemporary and vibrant atmosphere.

“We are confident that it will add to the eclectic mix of independent retail and leisure businesses operating at Queen Insurance Buildings and provide a further boost to the wider Castle Street area of the commercial district.”

Queen Insurance Buildings is Grade-II listed and encompasses Queen’s Avenue, a Victorian arcade that is already home to several independent retail businesses including R&H Fine Wines, Moose Coffee and Salad Bowl.

The arrival of CAU marks another high profile addition to Queen Insurance Buildings, which will also welcome a brand new Tune Hotel in 2015, currently being developed by Hotel Land Development Ltd.
