The Quadrus Centre flourishes as business in South Tyneside drives forward at pace

A vibrant and diverse business environment is emerging right across South Tyneside, as all four of the borough’s major business units report a sharp increase in uptake from companies as diverse as multi-nationals to fledgling startups.

Post-recession confidence amongst existing tenants is also growing rapidly with a number of them either currently taking on new staff or planning to do so in the months ahead.

New figures show that the work spaces managed by South Tyneside Council, including offices at The Quadrus Centre, West Boldon, and the mixed-use manufacturing and office units available at Jarrow Business Centre, One Trinity Green and South Shields Business Works, have seen a sharp increase in occupation in the last twelve months, with more exciting new and established companies than ever taking advantage of the space available.

The award winning Quadrus Centre, located at Boldon Business Park, just off the A19, has seen a ten percent increase in tenancies over the last year.

The past six months alone has seen new tenants such as Bradley O’Mahoney Public Relations, Serco, Atlantic Med Marine, Jones Engineering and Vinci Construction making The Quadrus Centre their home, bringing the current number of businesses housed in the centre to 28.

One such new addition is Care Outcomes UK Ltd, a specialist recruiter and supplier of nursing and care staff which moved in during August. Branch Manager, Jo Ivison said: “We have regular visitors and it was a high priority for us to ensure they are greeted in a professional manner in a comfortable and practical space.

“Not only does The Quadrus Centre provide our business with the right professional image but it also makes our working environment an extremely pleasant one, too!”

Many of the existing companies are also expanding rapidly, taking on new staff and larger spaces.

Facilitating the treatment of eyelid problems for NHS patients, Minor Ops Ltd has been based in the Quadrus Centre since its inception in 2007.

Operations Director, Leanne Sanderson, said: “We’ve grown from three part-time employees working from one of the smallest offices in the centre to twenty three employees, occupying two offices.

“Being in a managed building takes away many of the day-to-day stresses of running a business and the seminars the Quadrus Centre hosts offer some great advice and guidance.

“As a new organisation the flexible easy in, easy out terms were very appealing when we were getting started.

“They have given us the confidence to grow the business, increase employee numbers and invest in larger office space.”

The impressive growth at The Quadrus Centre comes after significant investment was made by SouthTyneside Council, with superfast broadband and ICT facilities on offer to attract even more exciting new businesses.

Investment has also been made in the internal and external appearance of the building to ensure it is as welcoming a location as possible for all tenants, staff and visitors.

The revamped conference space, The Lake Room, is the perfect choice to hold conferences and events.

Meanwhile, the relaxed and very comfortable environment that is Cafébar One provides top quality refreshments and is open to the public.

South Tyneside Council’s other business units have also seen a healthy amount of new businesses settling in, with the Jarrow Business Centre reporting one its busiest months for new tenants in August 2014.

South Shields Business works is nearly full, with only four percent of its available space remaining, whilst One Trinity Green gained the biggest increase in occupancy across the four centres, with a 16% boost since last year.

South Tyneside Councillor, John Anglin said: “The rise in the number of tenants across all of our work spaces really reflects just how vibrant and diverse the business landscape on South Tyneside continues to be.

“The Quadrus Centre, especially, is a stunning building with excellent transport links and the fact that both new startups and national businesses can happily share that same space says a lot about the quality of the facilities we offer in South Tyneside.”
