From Private to Private Eye

After a career in the army spanning 13 years, Warren Hassell is utilising the skills learnt on the front line to become his own boss as a private investigator.

Meeting with business adviser Margaret Cook from the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) Warren was able to establish his own business, WH Investigations, he explains: “I find my work so interesting and varied that each day is completely different. Whether it be serving divorce papers, court hearings, medical litigation, companies tracking down assets to partners worried about the other playing away. Each case brings with it new challenges which is what I thrive on.

“Coming to the BIC was such a big help and Margaret has been very supportive, we went through the finance side of the business together. I thought that to set up your own business all you needed were a logo and some flyers and off you go. But Margaret helped me with the business planning and it’s reassuring to know that the line of communication is always there should I need to ask more advice.

“I only wish I had done it sooner.”

Margaret put Warren onto The Ready for Business programme which aims to create 6,000 businesses with 10,000 jobs and is supported by the Regional Growth Fund and Barclays. It is delivered in the North East by Sunderland based TEDCO which teamed with the BIC last year to create a powerhouse for enterprise in the region. Margaret adds: “Warren had his goal in mind at our very first meeting he knew where he wanted to go I just helped with the practical side of it. This is what I love about by job seeing clients leave their established careers to make a break for it on their own and Warren certainly has done that. “I wish him all the best for the future and if I ever need a private investigator I know just who to call.”
