Catapult announcement 'massive leap' says Atlas Cloud

The Government’s decision to set up a centre to lead Yorkshire’s digital revolution has been hailed as “a massive leap forward for the region’s businesses”.

Minister for the Digital Economy Ed Vaizey said the Bradford Catapult Centre, along with others in Brighton and Sunderland, will “rapidly advance the UK’s best digital ideas” and generate thousands of new jobs and millions in investment and funding.

Cloud computing experts at Atlas Cloud, which has bases in Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield and London, recently named Yorkshire as one of the fastest-growing digital economies.

Business manager Jon Smith said: “The digital community across the region will be delighted by the Government’s decision. It is a vindication of the huge amount of hard work going on across the region and will help small and large firms take a massive leap forward and establish Yorkshire as a digital powerhouse.

“This decision is the foundation for many years of digital prosperity. The job opportunities now and in the long term are enormous and it is up to the digital sector to grasp the opportunity and work with the new centre to make the most of the money and expertise that will be attracted to the region.”
