Trainees hard at work at Holyhead truck stop development

North Wales trainees are putting their skills to the test at a truck stop development in Holyhead.

Three apprentice plant operatives and a trainee engineer are hard at work with civil engineering contractor Jones Bros at the £3.5m transport hub on the Parc Cybi business park.

While delivering a contract to carry out groundworks on the project for the Conygar-Road King joint venture, Jones Bros apprentices Luke Dymock, Liam Griffiths and Luke Walker are also building on skills learned at the company’s dedicated training centre at its headquarters in Ruthin.

They have been joined on site by trainee civil engineer Rhodri Jones, who is also contributing to the construction of the 200 parking bay transport hub that will serve thousands of hauliers every year.

Jones Bros project manager Hefin Lloyd-Davies said: “Our apprentices and trainees make a real contribution to many of our projects. The best way to learn in this industry is by working on every stage of a development.

“All four are working really hard on the truck stop, and it’s great to see them get an opportunity to develop their skills on a project not too far from home.

“As well as giving young people an opportunity to develop their skills, the truck stop development has also provided more than £750,000 worth of contracts for Anglesey businesses.

“I’m pleased to be working on a project that is providing a wealth of opportunities to people and businesses in North Wales.”

Jones Bros is working alongside the Watkin Jones Group on the project, which is constructing the truck park’s support facilities.

Founded in the 1950s and employing almost 300 people, Jones Bros has grown rapidly in the last decade. It is currently working on contracts including the construction of waste management facilities, highways, flood and marine defence and renewable energy projects around the UK.
