Lifetime Achievement Award For Training Stalwart
Gill Steele, training manager at the Eric Wright Group, has been presented with a lifetime achievement award for her commitment to skills development in the field of civil engineering.
Gill has devoted her career to playing a central role in the training and development of civil engineers and was presented with the accolade at the annual Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Vision NW dinner, held recently at the Manchester Hilton.
Gill joined the Eric Wright Group in March 2007 following a 17-year tenure at engineering, project management and consultancy firm AMEC.
With capacity and skills shortages affecting the industry, this was a particularly timely award for the well-known and respected professional who has been involved with the Civil Engineering Contractors Association, the Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors and the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).
Speaking of her achievement, Gill said: “I’m so overwhelmed to have won this award. I really enjoy the work that I do, helping people to be the best that they can, so to have been recognised in this way is incredible.
“I’d like to thank everyone at the Eric Wright Group for their support and am delighted that awards such as these help to raise the profile of the civil engineering industry, which can offer a long and rewarding career.”
Guy Lawson, director of CECA NW, added: “My congratulations go to all the very worthy award winners. While the good news of growing workloads is tempered by capacity issues and margins affected by rising prices, it was very encouraging that the dinner was attended by a record number.
“The North West civil engineering sector is set to become one of the busiest UK regions, and firms are certainly gearing up for growth, which was the overall theme for the day.”
The event attracted more than 250 guests and was hosted by cricketer and broadcaster, Alec Stewart OBE.
