Lancashire’s Eric Wright completes £5.1 million Bents development

Bamber Bridge-based contractor Eric Wright Construction, a division of the Eric Wright Group, has completed work on the next phase of a multimillion-pound development at Bents Garden & Home in Glazebury, Warrington.

Valued at £5.1m, the 37-week project included the design and build of a two-storey extension, providing additional retail space on the ground floor together with new offices, and future expansion space for retail at first floor level.

The scheme also included the construction of a new roundabout on the A574 highway, a key feature of reinforcing Bents as a destination.

It follows the successful completion of Phase 1 in October 2012, also delivered by Eric Wright Construction.

The 29-week project comprised a new £2.6m plant holding warehouse, overflow car parks and re-surfacing & remodelling works to the existing car park.

Managing director at Bents Garden & Home, Matthew Bent, said: “We’ve come a long way since the Bents’ business was established by my grandparents nearly 75 years ago and the journey so far has been hugely enjoyable.

“Despite growing in size we want to retain all the great things we already do, keeping the feeling and ambiance we have worked hard to create, but in a bigger store.

“Whilst never forgetting our gardening heritage we’ve worked hard to create a destination that is no longer just focussed on the garden but also encompasses home, lifestyle, leisure and a day out and Eric Wright Construction has helped us achieve just that.”
