2 year old York construction firm contributes £7 million to the region’s economy

Construction business Lindum York, which launched only two years ago in the area, will reportedly contribute £7 million to the local economy this financial year.

Lindum had only two staff when it opened its York office in September 2012 but now has a 20-strong team.

The firm has reportedly won business after introductions through the York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce.

The company, which has its head office in Lincoln, has had to extend its York office in Blossom Street twice to accommodate its rapid growth and is starting the second phase of major development work at York Racecourse.

Lindum Construction won the contract after gaining a direct introduction to York Racecourse through head of York and North Yorkshire Chamber, Susie Cawood.

The contracts, which have contributed £10 million to Lindum York’s growth, include building new stables, a weighing building for jockeys, and the refurbishment of the Moët & Chandon Bar and the surviving element of the 1763 grandstand by John Carr, the oldest surviving and only Grade II* racecourse building in the country.

Meanwhile, at Clifton Moor, Lindum is working on a £4.5 million contract to construct and refurbish retail units for British Land, including premises for KFC, Pets at Home, DFS, Oakwood Furniture and Wren Living York.

Lindum York director, Neil Coote, says: “When we opened, we realised that, to be successful, we had to get to know the city and become part of the local community.

“That was not easy as York, like many other big cities, is parochial and businesses need to be engaged with the community to trade within it.

“Many of our York projects have come through connections or introductions made through the Chamber.

“We’re now contributing £7 million to the city’s economy this year in terms of using local sub contractors, other suppliers sourcing materials.”
