Azzure IT sponsors Sheffield’s skater Luke Sidebottom
ERP specialist Azzure IT is beginning a sponsorship programme with promising young ice skater Luke Sidebottom, ahead of the British Figure Skating Championships in Sheffield from the 26th-30th November.
Based in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Sheffield, Luke is a natural on the ice. Young he may be, but Luke has over seven years experience of skating, and many a trophy to boot. Having recently taken first place in his category at the Guildford Open and the Bradford Open, Luke is fit and ready to take on the British Championships. He will participate in the tournament for the first time, and is hoping for at least a top three position.
Azzure’s MD Craig Such, an avid ice hockey fan, first spotted twelve year-old Luke in training at the Ice Sheffield Arena, and was so impressed with his talents that he jumped at aiding his quest for skating brilliance. ‘We’ve not sponsored anyone before, but I was so impressed with Luke’s talents that I thought it an honour to represent him, and a great opportunity to support some home grown talent,’ explained director Craig. ‘Hopefully this is just the beginning of a long and prosperous relationship!’ Luke’s training kit will be emblazoned with Azzure’s brand, and the company will pay all his expenses for events and competitions.
Luke was first inspired to get on the ice at the tender age of five, after watching his elder sister on the rink. Further afield, Luke has set his sights on gaining a place on the National Ice Skating Association’s International Talent Squad, and ultimately representing Great Britain at international events. ‘Being on the ice is exhilarating’, says Luke. ‘Sometimes I forget that the judges and audience are watching, and just get lost in the music’.
‘Luke’s friends, family and school are all very proud of him,’ says Luke’s father Wayne Sidebottom. ‘We are continually astounded by his dedication to the sport, and the way he manages to balance his training with school and homework’. Luke trains on average 12 hours a week in order to ensure he stays ahead of the competition.
You can catch Luke in action on the first two days of event. ‘From everyone here at Azzure’, says Craig, ‘we wish him the best of luck at the championships and beyond!’
