Surgo secures contracts worth £22 million

North East building contractor Surgo Construction has seen a steady increase in tender opportunities, leading to a number of new contract wins valued at approximately £22 million.

Surgo has been appointed to five new schemes in the care sector, education, healthcare, a project on the River Tyne at HMS Calliope and a major renewable energy project.

Working for care home operator Eothen Homes under a design and build contract Surgo will construct an innovative care facility for people with dementia in Wallsend.

The 52 bedroom facility will provide a model of care within a ‘family home’ environment, providing safety and security with dementia specific design features.

Surgo previously worked for Eothen Homes in 1988 constructing their home in Gosforth.

In healthcare, Surgo will apply its extensive experience of the sector working on behalf of Ferryhill and Chilton Medical Practice to construct a new health centre.

The new centre, which will replace an existing GP surgery, is being constructed on a brownfield site.

It will feature a GP branch practice, dental practice, NHS facilities and a medical retail unit. Start on site is anticipated later this month.

Finally, later this month, Surgo will commence a further anaerobic digestion project, valued at approximately £12 million, for client JFS and Associates in North Yorkshire.

According to Surgo’s director Jeff Alexander said: “In the last twelve months we have seen a gradual increase in both the quality and quantity of tender opportunities on schemes throughout the region and I am delighted to announce this latest raft of project wins, which maintains our increasing workload and reflects the diversity of the core work we undertake on a regular basis.

“We can approach the next two or three years with increasing confidence following what has been a challenging period for our industry.”
