'Business Battleaxe' takes action to support 'Small Business Saturday UK'
Amanda Vigar, the self-styled ‘Business Battleaxe’ is going into action on behalf of fellow small businesses on ‘Small Business Saturday UK’.
‘Small Business Saturday UK’, a grassroots campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their locality, will take place on December 6.
Amanda, founder and Managing Partner at V&A Vigar & Co (Darlington), has forged a reputation as a no-nonsense, tough talking, champion of small businesses.
She is advocating that, as well as supporting this special day, SMEs support each other in the run-up to December 6 and beyond by doing business with fellow local small firms as much as possible.
She said: “Running a small business myself and with the majority of my clients being owner/managed enterprises, I am well aware of the vital contribution that small businesses make to the UK economy and the communities in which individuals live and work.
“I would urge consumers to support the UK’s second ‘Small Business Saturday UK’, which turns the spotlight on local independent businesses at one of the busiest shopping times of the year.
“Small business also should support each other by using local suppliers whenever possible and collaborating in business-to-business initiatives.
“With this in mind, I will be offering free consultations on December 6 to all small businesses on a host of different topics, ranging from accounting and taxation to company secretarial services, from our staff of experienced accountants and business planners.”
The inaugural ‘Small Business Saturday UK’ campaign in 2013 proved a great success - research by American Express undertaken immediately after last year’s initiative found that 43 percent of shoppers on the day chose specifically to shop at local independently-owned businesses because of Small Business Saturday. They in turn spent an average of £33 per person on the day, generating £468m for small businesses across the country.
