Christmas shoppers shop till they drop at Hoppers Cottage

Newcastle and Metrocentre Christmas shoppers have a new apart hotel to stay in thanks to a Tynedale property landlord who is looking to fill a festive gap in the accommodation market.

Kim Moore has used her 15 years experience in converting properties for rental accommodation and her project management skills for a range of client’s portfolios by opening a guesthouse in Swalwell Gateshead with a unique dual use concept.

Kim spotted the run down, Hoppers Cottage, formally a guest house and has completely gutted and redeveloped the property into three private en-suite rooms, complete with TVs, king-sized beds, soundproofing, a covered yard, security fencing and CCTV. The property is ideal for contractors travelling to Tyneside for work and people looking for a weekend spot to party away from home as well as being only a few minutes walk away from the Metrocentre.

Kim, from Stocksfield in Northumberland, said: “Contractors coming to the region to work, especially those who work nightshifts, often have problems finding suitable accommodation while they’re here.

“Most guesthouses want you to check in after 2pm or 3pm, and don’t like you waiting around in the house during the day if you’re working nights. Here you can come and go as you like ensuring workers will always have a good night’s sleep. Hoppers Cottage is close to the Metro Centre, has great connections to the A1, and people can check into their own self-contained rooms at any time of the day or night.”

The house, which is also equipped with room-by-room controllable central heating and a communal kitchen, is checked and maintained during the day by staff but guests are assured of somewhere private and comfortable to relax whatever shift they’re working.

Hoppers Cottage’s great location, which isn’t joined or overlooked by other properties, will also be marketed as a weekend retreat for people who want to hold private parties without disturbing their own neighbours.

Kim said: “It’s a great private place for hen parties or stag parties to stay, or if you’re part of a group of like-minded souls looking for a weekend meeting place. We reckon that it’ll also prove popular for people travelling to Tyneside in teams for events like the Great North Run, “

Kim has used the same approach to developing Hoppers Cottage as she has when renovating all of her other properties. She buys buildings in poor condition and redevelops them to a high standard, with brand new flooring, heating and boiler systems.

“My experience has shown me that if you give someone a house that’s in good condition, they are more likely to stay there and also to respect the work you’ve put into the property,” said Kim.

“I’ve done exactly the same with Hoppers Cottage, with double insulated floors and soundproofing – so you’re guaranteed a good night’s sleep whether you are here to work, Christmas shop or play.”
