Female entrepreneur crowned creative champion

CRAFTER’S Companion founder Sara Davies has been announced as the winner of the Creative Industries Entrepreneur of the Year award at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.

Sara, 30, fought off stiff competition from six high flying creative professionals from across the UK to pick-up the prestigious prize at a glitzy ceremony in central London.

The Great British Entrepreneur Awards celebrate the contributions and innovations of British entrepreneurs and their impact on the economy.

Sara said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have won this national award given it recognises everything that the craft sector, the business and my amazing team are all about.

“Our success has come off the back of listening to and talking to our customers, then in turn creating new innovations in the sector that craft consumers across the world love to use.

“It was quite a humbling experience being shortlisted alongside so many of the UK’s finest entrepreneurs and professionals so it’s a very proud moment for me. Congratulations to all of the finalists and winners on the night as everyone is an inspiration in terms of helping drive our economy in the right direction,” added Sara.

Crafter’s Companion was founded in 2005 and its products became an instant hit with crafting enthusiasts worldwide. The company, which employs over 60 people across its County Durham headquarters and its US operation in California, specialises in the manufacture and distribution of crafting tools along with its own brand goods.

Its products are sold online via its website, via TV shopping channels across the world and through independent retail shops in the UK and Europe. As a result, Sara is now a global star in the craft sector, regularly featuring on TV channels demonstrating the range of tools the company now manufacturers.

The award success for Sara may continue, as she is also shortlisted for the Women in Business 2014 Yorkshire and North East Awards in both the International Business and Retail categories that take place next week. These awards are run by support organisation Forward Ladies and look to recognise the contribution of women across the north.

As well as running Crafter’s Companion, Sara is an angel investor with Gabriel Investors and acts as a business mentor through Entrepreneurs’ Forum and UKTI. She was also the founding board chair at the Craft Hobby Association UK.
