City West to build new homes in Salford

Planning permission has been secured for a development of 80 new affordable homes on a former industrial site in Salford.

Mulbury Homes is delivering the scheme in Clifford Street, Eccles, for social landlord City West Housing Trust, who is making the new homes available for Affordable Rent and Shared Ownership.

The £9 million development will utilise a £2.2 million grant from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), secured through its 2015/18 Affordable Homes Programme.

The scheme will deliver 68 two and three-bedroom houses and 12 one and two-bedroom flats on 2.5 acres of brownfield land adjacent to Clifford Street and Green Street.

Work on the development is set to begin in January 2015, and is due to be completed by August 2016.

In July 2014, City West secured £7.4 million of HCA funding to continue its new-build programme between 2015 and 2018.

Through this programme, the landlord will invest £30 million in a series of developments to deliver 286 new homes across the city.

Assistant director of investment and regeneration at City West, Nigel Sedman said: “Our latest investment to build 80 homes on this site is a massive leap forward in our plans to deliver hundreds of much needed affordable homes for Salford.

“This is an exciting time for City West and our customers alike as we continue to build new quality homes, and develop attractive and sustainable communities that benefit all residents.

“With housing waiting lists stretched to their limits, Salford urgently needs new homes.

“By securing this HCA funding, we are now able ease that pressure and progress with one of the most ambitious development programmes in the city.”

A director of Mulbury Homes, Greg Mulligan said: “This development will transform a derelict site, providing high-quality, energy efficient homes that complement existing housing in the area.

“We are pleased to be working with City West as part of the ongoing regeneration of this area of Salford.”
