Middlesbrough housing group Thirteen expand to new premises

Key partners have met on site to celebrate progress on a new head office for housing group Thirteen at Muse Developments’ £100m Northshore regeneration scheme in Stockton on Tees.

The new 43,000 sq ft building will accommodate in the region of 300 employees next to the River Tees. It will give Thirteen Group a contemporary and environmentally-friendly head office, designed specifically to meet its needs and promote more efficient working practices within the workforce.

Representatives from Muse, Thirteen, Stockton Council and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) marked the occasion with an event on site.

The building includes several sustainable design features to achieve a BREEAM Very Good award.

The building is scheduled for completion in early 2015, Overbury will then undertake the fit out and Thirteen will move into the building in April 2015.

When complete, Northshore will provide up to 450,000 sq ft of offices, up to 85,000 sq ft retail, leisure space, a new hotel and up to 126 family houses, all set within a high quality riverside environment.

The scheme will re-connect and re-orientate the town with the River Tees and create nearly 4,500 new jobs.

Thirteen’s Deputy Chief Executive, Cath Purdy, said: “This is a fantastic building and we are very proud to be part of the Northshore development. This new office will enable us to continue and develop our services across the area.”

Area Manager at the Homes and Communities Agency, Chris Munro, added: “The completion of this project will mark a real change at Northshore by bringing workers to the site as well as people living in the new homes.

“The combination of jobs and homes will turn an idea into a community and ensure that Northshore is a real place to benefit local people.”

Leader of Stockton Council, Councillor Bob Cook, said: “Northshore is already a fantastic place to live and it is fast becoming a first-class place to do business too.

“Not only does the easy access to major road and rail routes make it a perfect business base, the businesses in Stockton Town Centre will also benefit as people who work or live at Northshore will be able to enjoy the short walk along the River Tees to Stockton Town Centre to take advantage of the many shops and eateries based there.

“This is a prime location so I’m sure many other businesses will soon be joining Thirteen and the Innovation Centre in creating modern, purpose built space on the banks of the river.”
