Pure Gym flexes its muscles further at the Merrion Centre and creates 35 new jobs
Yorkshire based gym operator, Pure Gym, has expanded its presence in the Merrion Centre with a further 10-year lease agreement at Town Centre House with Town Centre Securities PLC (TCS).
The no-frills, 24 hour gym giant already occupies a 21,200 square foot gym in the Merrion Centre as well as its head quarters and is now acquiring a further 4,750 square feet which is currently being refurbished. The expansion has created 35 new jobs for the local area and will accommodate the growing member support services and marketing department. The final refurbishment of the premises will be completed by December.
Brian Scurrah, Development Director for Pure Gym, explains; “This move supports our continued growth plan. The Merrion Centre was our second gym opening in Leeds and we are on course to own 90 clubs by the end of the year and 150 clubs by 2016. Our roots are in the North and it makes sense for us to house our ever growing support services in the heart of Leeds in the thriving Arena Quarter, Merrion Centre offers us the space and support in order to do this.”
The fast growing, low cost fitness club was establish in 2008 by leisure entrepreneur, Peter Roberts and now has over 400,000 members across the UK.
Helen Green, Associate Director of Estates for Town Centre Securities PLC comments; “Pure Gym was our first tenant to open in the Centre’s Arena Quarter Leisure Development. They opened about a year ago and we’ve enjoyed watching the enterprise expand across the country. The company is a valued tenant of TCS and we also house one of their Manchester gyms at Urban Exchange. We pride ourselves on being adaptable and meeting the needs of our ever growing tenant base and we are delighted to be able to offer Pure Gym additional office space in the heart of their homeland.”
