Firm urges local businesses to take advantage of energy saving grant funding

J.G. Harrison & Sons is encouraging local businesses to take advantage of funding from Kirklees Council’s Business Environment Grant.

Up to £5,000 funding is available per Kirklees-based business but with a closing date of next March 2015, organisations are urged to apply soon.

The resource efficiency grant can help subsidise a range of energy, water and waste improvements including installing LED lighting which local firm J.G. Harrison & Sons can both provide and install.

Business Development Manager at J.G. Harrison & Sons, Amanda Speight explains:

“If we could switch the world’s lighting to energy efficient solutions, we could save 120 million Euros on electricity and reduce CO2 emissions by 630 million tonnes!”

Claire Rawson, Financial Director for Oxford Grange care home, Dewsbury and eight others within the group which are beginning to see renovation works also, benefitted from £5,000 funding with work carried out to Oxford Grange last February.

J.G. Harrison & Sons replaced the nursing homes fluorescent 33w bulbs for 12w LEDs saving £6,000 per year on energy consumption. Furthermore, the products come with a five year guarantee which means the bulbs will create savings of almost £30,000 over the five years.

Claire told us:

“We we’re very happy with the team at J.G. Harrison & Sons and we have seen considerable cost savings so we’re beginning to roll out the same lighting upgrades to the other care homes we manage.”

Founded in 1951, the family run lighting experts; J.G. Harrison & Sons have four stores and lighting showrooms, based at Dewsbury, Halifax, Bradford and Rochdale.

With Government targets to reduce CO2 emissions by 40% by 2020 (from a 2005 baseline) leading towards an 80% reduction by 2050, the company has seen a growth in its commercial work over recent years.

With this growth, J.G. Harrison & Sons are now offering businesses in the Yorkshire area a free site survey to visit and look at replacing current lighting to more efficient technology.

Amanda can also be found offering a voice for local businesses on the Calderdale Energy Future Panel which sets out to drive the reduction in damaging greenhouse emissions.

Amanda continues:

“Most businesses are aware that they need to reduce their energy consumption, for reasons both around being green and most importantly, to save the business having to pay out unnecessary costs. However, many companies do not know that such funding exists. I’m happy to advise organisations on how to apply and obtain the funding; and how they can use it to improve the efficiency of their lighting in the business which will further help to save costs and reduce their carbon footprint over the next several years.”
